Advanced screen capture applications
Writing universal tips for advanced screencasting is hardly possible, having in mind the diversity of programs on the market. Still there are many common features that all or some of these screencasting packages offer and which you can use to make your screencasts more professional, educative, communicative.
Synchronization of audio and video
Probably the most important step in advanced screencasting that you cannot skip is synchronization of audio and video. The exact way to perform this step varies among the programs and often the only solution is tedious manual work to adjust the frames to the sound that explains them. Synchronization can be especially difficult if you have removed (or even worse – changed the position of frames) small parts of the video and now you have to fit the remaining pieces.
Visual Effects
Adding visual effects is another advanced step that depending on the software of your choice can be a breeze or a punishment. For instance, there are programs, which make dealing with callouts a pleasure, while there are others that make your life miserable, when you have to add hundreds of callouts for a larger demo. Also, do not forget that file size matters and the more callouts and annotations you add, the bigger the end file will be.
File size optimization
Optimizing the file size by removing unnecessary parts of the movie is also an important step to make it more professional, educative and communicative. Having in mind that a demo or a tutorial cannot be endless, removing even 20 percent of the initially recorded stuff can lead to significantly lower file size, shorter and more concise narration without necessary pauses and chaotic movements of the mouse.
